It's that time of year again....

I've had yard sales before and for the most part, they've been pretty successful. (I'm hoping this one is too, because the $$ I earn is going straight to our re-decorating fund for paint and supplies! But, I also want people to enjoy themselves and find exactly what they were looking for. After all, I love yard sales as much as the next person, and there's nothing worse than seeing some leave disappointed, or even worse-a HEART-WRENCHING-drive-by!
So, to ensure I did everything SPOT ON-I started checking out the web for some expert advice.
Obviously, there were a lot of 'rummaging' experts out there! They all had great ideas to help me not only get rid of my clutter-but also make some $$$!

And here are five MORE tips that I've used in the past that were HUGELY successful!
1. Inevitably, those neat piles of clothing you set up at the beginning of your sale, will be messed up within seconds after your sale starts. Be prepared-and have someone available to re-organize during lulls.
2. I don't know about you, but I have a hard time taking a strangers word that their dusty old TV- sitting on the pavement actually works! So help those potential(nit-picky) buyers out. Make sure you have an electric outlet available, if at all possible, for testing. Since we only have a handful of electronic items, I'm going to have ours hooked up to a power surge on the front porch!
3. If your selling curtains make sure you know what length they are and what size your bedding is. I don't know how many times I've gone rummaging and had to search for the little description tags, only to find them so worn out I can't read them, and worse-the seller didn't know either! ***Better yet- write the detailed info on your price tag-than no one has to ask!
4. Know the going rate for your items! Maybe your communities are different then mine-but around here-folks don't want to haggle over price. They want a 'FAIR'/cheap price, and if they can't get it at your sale, they won't have a problem leaving empty handed for the next. So, either price your items accordingly, or be prepared to lower them mid sale! *** I used resources such as Craigslist and Ebay, as well as a few local thrift stores, to get the skinny on pricing.
5. Make it fun! Anyone that has ever had a yard sale knows how much hard work goes into preparing for one! But even so-try to remember how you feel when you go out looking for treasures. Would you buy something from someone who doesn't even look up from their cell phone to say 'Hello'? Or worse-someone who snaps at you just because you asked a simple question? NO!! You want to feel welcome-and most of all-IMPORTANT. So make those folks glad they came to your sale, and I guarantee they won't leave empty handed!
It really is a win-win situation. You get to let go of some major clutter-you make some $$$(for re-decorating, vacations, or whatever)-and someone goes home from your sale- happier than they came!
What about you folks? Do you have any tips for a successful yard sale? Let me know!
Happy Monday everyone-and stop by if your in the area this weekend!
Until then-
