I finally finished the signs I promised to make for my niece, Amanda!!!
I am pretty happy with the way they turned out!
Here is what I did:
Hubby brought home two pallets (You will need one for this project-but I'm making two sets!)
Since Hubby doesn't allow me near a saw (I don't blame him)-he did all the cutting!
Here is what the backside looks like-after the pieces were screwed together and reinforced.
One down-one more to go!
And then there were two! We are set for the next step-
I sanded both the edges of each piece-as well as-the tops-to ensure no slivers would be had!
The first sign received a coat of antique white-(I used Patio Paint)
The second sign was painted with Pewter Gray (Note: When I first started applying- the color seemed a bit dark-so I mixed it with a little of the white. The color turned out much softer (PERFECT)!
I didn't have time to finish-so I let these dry over night-but this paint is (quick drying)-so you should be able to use your stencils within an hour after painting!
I love the antique look! For the grey background-I just mixed a bit more white into the gray paint and randomly brushed it into the nooks and crannies of the wood.
For the white background- I just kept it simple-letting the wood show through as much as possible.
My last step is to add some sawtooth hangers on the back-and they are ready for the nursery!!!
I'd love to hear your ideas on other 'easy' diy projects! Until then- HAPPY WEDNESDAY!
Love this! I plan to make some signs this summer for my garden areas. We have some old steps that are aged and very vintage looking that I'm going to paint some sort of wording on. Yours turned out great!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Val! I can't wait to see what you do with your steps!!!
