A Homemade Halloween Sweet Treat!

I'll admit.  Ever since our kiddo's grew up and flew the coop-I haven't
gotten into Halloween as much as I once did.
Nope.  There are no spooky goblins and ghosts here at our house.
Or even black spiders and terrifying jack o' lantern
faces.
And honestly-I can't even remember the last time
I dressed up in a costume!

But there is one thing that hasn't changed since those days long past
of trick or treating.
We always have LOTS and LOTS of SWEET TREATS this
time of year!
For the neighborhood kids that come calling-I've bagged up
a whole bunch of yummy candy.

And for hubby and I?

A nod to one of my all time favorite Halloween treats!
Peanut Butter Butterfinger Bars!

A crunchy peanut butter crust-covered in chocolate!

I mean what's not to love?

Here's the recipe!

ENJOY!

Peanut Butter Butterfinger Bars

Ingredients:
Crust:
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup white sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup peanut butter
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 vanilla
1 cup flour
1 cup oatmeal
Filling:
1 12 oz bag of dark chocolate chips
Icing:
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
4 Tablespoons milk

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350.  Cream together shortening and sugars.  Add egg, peanut butter, soda, salt and vanilla.  Stir in flour and oatmeal.  Spread into a 9x13 pan.  Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.  Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over crust.  Return to oven for 1 minute.
Meanwhile-mix together ingredients for icing.  Remove bars from oven and drizzle icing over melted
chips-swirling as you cover bars.  Let cool. Makes 24-36 bars depending on size cut.
