Happy Monday-and welcome to the first edition
of Monday Morning Musings!
As I've mentioned in previous posts, I have some big changes
planned for CD's Country Living-and while most
of these changes will involve a move, as well as,
this blog's appearance-I have also decided
to change up the format a bit too!
I know Monday morning's can be tough for a lot of folks,
(me included)-and my hope is that this weekly post
can inject a little humor and inspiration into your
day-along with a chance for me to share
more about the gal behind the blog and
what matters the most to me....family.
So let's get right to it-with what's on my mind this Monday
morning!
Do you ever have those day's where you wonder
if anyone actually HEARS what you're saying?
Source |
I'll admit-the older I get-the worse I am at listening. It's not
because I'm not interested in what other people have to say-or,
that I don't care about what they have to say. The truth is-
sometimes my mind is just so darn FULL of stuff- that if I force
one more item into it-I fear my head will POP right
off my shoulders!
Take this past Friday for example. Hubby and I were driving the
3 1/2 hours to our daughter, Mel's and son in law, Andy's.
We were about an hour into the drive.
Mr. Bentley had FINALLY
settled down on the seat between us-and after going over our
checklist to make sure we didn't forget anything-and discussing
our day, hubby and I had reached that comfortable- 'quiet' place.
(You know-that place you eventually reach in relationship-where
you don't HAVE to talk just make to conversation!)
Anyway, I'm not sure what hubby was thinking about during
our quiet time (probably what part to buy for his car next)-but
I was thinking about....
Whether or not I forgot to unplug the coffee pot-
if it was going to rain and ruin the coat of paint I'd just
put on the deck that afternoon-
Mel's issue with our grandson's daycare-and if it would be resolved.
The Pope's visit-
My niece being on vacation-and if she'd have a safe trip-
Mom's recent' health issues-
The blog- work-
fall decorating-
stripping wall paper in the living room
and the party we are throwing Mel and Andy in two weeks.
Probably not in that order-but you get my point.
Suddenly-out of the still silence-hubby has the nerve
to ask...."So what do you think?"
Me: "What do I think about what?"
Hubby: "Our retirement plan?"
(UGH! I could already feel my head start to unhinge.)
Me: "What about our retirement plan?"
Hubby: "You didn't hear a thing I said, did you?"
(Uh-ya think?)
Me: "Sorry, I guess I was thinking about other stuff-(Like global warming, world hunger,
and the fact that I did remember I forgot to unplug the coffee maker)
Could you repeat what you said? I promise I'll listen this time."
But first I had to call mom
to see if she could stop over to the house and unplug the coffeemaker
in the off chance that it malfunctioned and started our house on fire!
After ten minutes of listening to mom talk about the weather, her dog, plans
for the weekend and what's happening on 'Days of our Lives', hubby
finally had my FULL attention.
Hubby: "Never mind-I'm planning out in my head
how I'm going to organize the garage for winter now."
Thank you LORD! Now I can spend the next hour
thinking about the weeds that need to be pulled
in the gardens-remembering to get a small paint brush
for the cracks in the deck-and texting Mandy
to set up an appointment for Mr. Bentley.
On another note-
I'm no expert-on really anything-but I have watched
hundreds of shows on HGTV, so I know
a thing or two about decorating and design.
So, when hubby and Andy were putting up
a chandelier in the dining room yesterday-
and asked what length it should be over the table-
of course I had the answer!
Me: "Thirty-six inches!"
Andy immediately gives me that LOOK!
You see-my son in law is a THINKER too-only
he's way more analytical than me.
In fact-I swear every time he's thinking about something-I can
hear that same whirring sound that my computer
makes each morning when I turn it on.
While the wheels in his head are still turning-he grabs a tape
measure and measures thirty-six inches from the bottom
of the chandelier.
Andy: (yelling to Mel in the kitchen) How high do you
want the chandelier over the table?
Mel: (yelling back from the kitchen) "I don't know-I'll have
to google it and see what the dimensions should be. Hold on."
Me: "I'm telling you-it's thirty-six inches!"
Hubby: " Chris-we need to be sure-because once I start cutting links
in the chain, there is no going back!" (Thanks for backing me
up, honey! I'll remember that the next time you offer
your two cents!)
Mel: (with phone in hand) "It say's that it should be between 30-33 inches if you have an eight foot ceiling-and you should another 3 inches if you have a nine foot ceiling."
Andy: "Well, we have a nine foot ceiling so that would mean
between 33-36 inches."
Me: I TOLD you-it's 36 inches!"
But I might as well have been talking to the wall!
Mel: "Lets' see what 34 inches looks like."
Five minutes later the chandelier was raised to 36 inches.
Of course-it would have done no good to say- "I told you so!"
Who would listen?
So I didn't-but just between you and me-I was thinking
those exact words
-inside my head-
where all
the world problems get solved!
Are you a good listener-or do you struggle to be heard?
I'm all ears! Shoot me an email, or leave me a comment!
Have a WONDERFUL Monday, ya' all!
Blessings and hugs,
I enjoyed your musing. I actually read all of it. And guess what? My brain wasn't constantly turning as it often does. I can be really rude...not intentionally...when someone is talking to me. I will interrupt what they are saying so, I can say what I need to say for fear of losing my (what I think) important thought. I absolutely have too many things spinning around in my head and sometimes it's on repeat. Thanks so much for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI am right there with you, Trish! I have a 'bad' habit of interrupting when someone is talking too! Like you-I fear if I don't say what I have to say NOW-I just might forget it! I'm glad you enjoyed my post! Thank you so much for stopping by!! Blessings!
