Furry Farm Friends and more!

Hello sweet friends!  I hope you all had a glorious weekend!

Although it's Monday,(we all know how much I hate Monday's)-today is a VERY special day for our family!

It's my 'baby' brother's birthday!

 Happy 41st B-day, bro!

Speaking of babies. Yesterday, while visiting with Kevin and mom at the farm, I caught site of a few 'furry' ones.

Summertime is all about new beginnings at the farm!  This little guy and his three siblings, were born just a few weeks ago!

Their mama just brought them out from hiding last weekend, so they are still a bit 'cautious' of pesky humans!

But this calico sweetie sure didn't mind my niece, Vanessa, giving him a bit of love!

And they all seem to be pretty comfy on mom's back porch!

I also did a little photo shoot this weekend, for my new SPOTLIGHT series, that will begin this month.

Here is a sneak peek!

The subject matter for the first post in the series, is one that is very near and dear to my heart.

The family farm.

Growing up, I remember that it wasn't always easy making a living off the farm alone.  But even so, my parents, and many others in our community were still able to make a modest living doing so.

That isn't  always the case today.

Today, many of those beautiful red barns that were once as well maintained as the farmhouse, and filled with livestock, are now crumbling to the ground, and the land that once had been overflowing with corn and soybeans, is nothing more than weeds.

Many farmers have been forced to shutdown and find work elsewhere, or at least find part time work outside the farm, just to stay afloat.

 August's spotlight will be on:

A day in the life of today's family farmer!

I chose to put the SPOTLIGHT on my niece, Amanda, and her boyfriend, Brad, because they are the perfect example of today's farmers.
Together they raise cattle, pigs, ducks, chickens, goats, and even a turkey, on Brad's 300+ acre family farm.

I can't wait to share their story, photo's and tips with you!

And finally-remember that one project I had left to do in the dining room.  Well, it is complete, so look forward to the reveal-it's coming soon.

Also- two updates on the kitchen.  #1- After two weeks of living with the wall color we chose-hubby and I both agree we hate it.  So, it's back to the paint store.  Wish me luck!

#2-  I'll be posting about what I did with this door later in the week.  (Hint:  It does NOT involve paint!)

Happy Monday!

Blessings,

Christine
