How to make a faux topiary

Update:  I was able to get my computer to come back up by resetting the memory!!!!  So here was the post I planned on getting out to you wonderful folks yesterday!!!

I previously posted about how I wanted a topiary, but also, how I refused to pay big $$$ for one.  Then I found a 'how to make a faux topiary' on one of my favorite blogs, and I was giddy with excitement to do my own.

Unfortunately, after I got home with all the supplies needed, and I started to assemble my topiary, I just didn't like how it looked.  Maybe it was the greenery.  I tried to get the same style that was in the blog post, but even so, up close, it just looked...FAKE.  Not at all how it looked in the photo's I posted.

Needless to say, I was pretty disappointed.  I really wanted to have the topiary completed before Easter, so I could include it in my decor.

Well folks, I did it.  I found another way and all it cost me was $5.00!!!!

Here  is what you will need:

I already had the tacky glue and spray adhesive, and the branches are from my hydrangea bush.

I found this faux urn back when I was organizing my rummage sale stuff, so that is what I used for the base.  You will also need foam to fit inside of what ever container you choose. (I found some in an old dried flower arrangement that I was going to throw away, but it was still in good shape.)

Step One:  Cut branches to size.  (Mine are 14")
Step Two: Braid the branches together and tie a rubber band at the base. ( You could also use wire.  I'll tell you why it doesn't matter if you see it, in a sec.)
Step Three:  Stick the end of your branches into the foam that you've placed in the bottom of your container
Step Four:  Remove the sheet moss and gently tear it into manageable pieces.
Step Five:  Glue the pieces of moss onto the foam ball- leaving a nickel size empty spot at the bottom of the ball.

Step Six:  Gently place the ball onto the tops of the three branches and push down until secure.
Step Seven:  Glue a piece of moss onto the empty space, and another strip around the branches-so that you can't see where they entered.
Step Eight:  Use remaining moss to fill in the container and foam

Then I just added some ivy I had, around the bottom of the branches, for added texture.  Viola!
