DIY-Personalized Family sign

Thankfully-I ditched yesterday's 'comotose' state-and woke up with ton's of energy!  (Gee, I wonder why?) With a cup of coffee in hand and my mind spinning with material, I went up to my office and wrote for the most of the morning.  Unfortunately, I lost some steam just before lunch time-so I decided to finish a project I've been putting off for months.

I've wanted to make a  'special' sign, ever since hubby used his 'creative genius' this last Christmas, and made 'personalized' ones for the family.  But, the sad fact is- I'm not a perfectionist like hubby is. Truth is- I can't even draw a straight line!!!! (Even when I have a ruler to follow!)

Yet....I wanted to at least try.  I mean- not to get mushy-but....I kinda love that guy of mine.  And, though we have many photo's of our wedding day in Mexico-as well as, a framed copy of our license,  I wanted something 'unique' to display in our ' homey' home!

So, with a little bit of time on my hands-and a whole lot of wood from mom's corn crib in the basement-I set out to create my own 'personalized' sign!

Now, before I show you 'my' creation- I need to warn you. It is NOT perfect.  But, that's okay!  For me-it wasn't about creating perfection.  I could buy that.  For me-it was about 'imperfection', just like the wood that I used.  It came from my mom's 100 year old corn crib.  It has scars-just like we all do-but, still- it is beautiful to me.

Here is what I did!

First, I started with my 'imperfect' wood.  Because I wanted those imperfections-I didn't even bother to sand it.  I simply applied one coat of paint (Patio Paint-black).  I let this dry for about 15 minutes (that's what I love about this paint.  It dries so quickly!)

Here I am using my trusty stencil!  Of course-I tried to measure everything out with a ruler so I could keep things even and straight-but I already told you how well that works.  I think I did okay.:)
I completed the last name-and it actually turned out right on center!!! (Please ignore the smudges from the stencils-they were touched up later.)-Okay...so maybe I wanted it to be as perfect as "I" could get it!!!

 Getting closer.......to imperfection!!!

If you didn't notice the imperfection in the last photo- that's okay.  I fixed it in this one.  I know- the heart is a little on the 'sappy' side- but hey-I'd rather be sappy than perfect! (Besides-like I said- it fixed my boo boo!)

Our sign is going to proudly hang in our living room-(as soon as I figure out how to put a sawtooth hook on it!)  Until then-create-imagine-and live!  But please.... don't put too much effort into being perfect.  It's not worth the stress, and in the end, it really doesn't matter.  What DOES matter is-that you enjoy each moment.  I sure enjoyed making this sign.  It relieved a WHOLE lot of stress.  And hubby-well, he loved it!! Of course he did! (Tehe!)
