Foyer Refresh!

Welcome to our foyer!
If you've been following along-you've probably heard me talk a LOT about
giving our foyer just a 'wee' bit of an update.
When we started this project, the initial plan was to pull up the carpet on the staircase
replace the balusters-and paint and stain
the woodwork.

Here you can see hubby taking care of the first step-pulling up the carpet!  It was a nasty job(bless you honey)-IE: the mask!

Here is what they looked like after the cloud of dust dispersed!  Not so pretty-right??

And here is what they look like now!

After many, many years of being hidden under carpet-the staircase can finally be the grand
centerpiece of the foyer-as it was meant to be when it was first built!

BEFORE

AFTER

We absolutely LOVE how the staircase turned out-and if you want
to see how we did it-you
can find my quick tutorial here.

Once the staircase was done-it was time to add some farmhouse touches
that would make this room feel warm and welcoming. I started by creating a  rustic gallery wall
filled with photo's of old barns, seed covers, an aerial shot of our family
farm, and yes, a cow!  (Thanks to my niece, Mandy for sharing Bessy!)

Fresh flowers were definitely a MUST have- so it's a good thing our
lilacs bloomed early!

Of course no room in this house would feel like home, without displaying a few of my
cherished treasures.
Some were found at flea markets...(I paid a quarter for the adorable
farm truck.)

Some from our family farm....(hubby thought I was crazy for bringing home
one lone wheel, but I couldn't pass up the chippy wood and rusty patina!)

And some-like this mirror, were found in the attic of our home!

Then it was time to shop around the house to fill in the
empty spaces.
This chippy bench has been in every room in our house.
But I think it's finally found a true purpose in the foyer

The perfect place to take of your shoes-or grab and umbrella on
on your way out the door!

Last-but certainly not least, is the light fixture.
Since the foyer only receives filtered light from the stain glass windows
we desperately needed to brighten up the space.

The problem was-hubby and I couldn't agree on one!
He wanted modern-I wanted vintage.

In the end..we compromised.

We still have one or two'minor' changes to make in the foyer(removing
the old mail slot on the wall for sure)- but overall,
we are very happy with the way the room turned out.
I hope I've inspired those of you who have always wanted
to remove the carpet from your staircase-to do it.
Yes, it's a lot of work-but it is SO worth it!
Thank you so much for stopping by!

Blessings and hugs,
CD

I'll be sharing my room refresh at these amazing parties-so come on over
and be inspired!

  10. Boy am I ever jealous! I would love to remove the carpet from our stairs! I'm thinking when the family room carpet needs replaced that I want to replace it with the same hardwood that is in the kitchen. It's one big open room and I would like it better. Maybe then I can tackle the stairs as well. Yours are absolutely gorgeous! Love lilacs and the little truck is so sweet. Oh, and I would have brought that wheel home also. : ) Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
