You see-as usual, things didn't go as I had planned when it came to decorating my porch.
It all started last week.
I'd been waiting to put the finishing touches on our fall porch, but couldn't do so, until I found some gourds and Indian corn. After looking through every store or nursery I could think of, I finally got lucky on Friday afternoon, and found some at our local farmer's market!
I was so excited that I raced home and plopped those gourds and corn into the large crate I already had pumpkins, apples and pine cones in!
After all was said and done-my porch was Gorgeous!!! Okay, maybe not gorgeous. But it was pretty. Okay, maybe not pretty. It was...nice. Yes, that's a good way to describe it. Nice.
Well, anyway, it was done. And in blog land, that's all that really matters- right? I mean, good grief-you HAVE to have your porch done by the first day of fall!!! I was 'over the moon' happy, because guess what- I DID!!!
As usual, hubby had to put his two cents in and roll his eye when he got home and saw our BEAUTIFULLY decorated porch! "Don't you remember what happened last year?"
Of course I remembered that a pack of greedy squirrels had a party on our porch last year, and stole half of my gourds and ate all of my corn!!! But I wasn't going to let them win this year! Oh NO! This time I was going to take all my photo's-BEFORE those rascals got even a whiff of those precious goodies!
But then our friends dropped over, and wanted us to go out to dinner with them. What's a girl to do?
Food-or photos? Well, I chose food.
By the time we arrived home it was too dark to take pictures, and I was too exhausted to think about carrying all my goodies inside.
The next day I awoke to a beautiful-sunny day, and this.....
I was almost in tears when hubby woke up and came downstairs.
"What am I going to do?" I asked. "There isn't another farmer's market until Tuesday, and that's the first day of fall!!!"
Thankfully, hubby didn't give me the 'I told you so' routine. "We'll search high and low today-and I'm sure we'll find more."
Well, we didn't.
And we didn't even find any on Sunday, when we went into the city to shop. So I finally had to give in-and start taking the photo's of our front porch-WITHOUT the gourds and more corn.
But then I started looking at the photo's. The pink and yellow mums were so pretty-but it was that darn storm door behind them that I hated.
So, I did what anyone would do....I took the storm door off.
Hubby was NOT impressed! "Where in the h....is the screen door?"
This time it was my turn to roll my eyes. "It's ugly and just doesn't fit with the theme I'm going for!"
I went back to snapping photo's, so I didn't catch all of his ranting and raving-but I did hear something about a crazy woman, and that no matter what- he wasn't putting the blankety-blank door back on.
Later on, I went inside and began editing some of the photo's.
Something just didn't look right-and I knew exactly what would fix it! So, with the courage of a woman with a well laid plan-I went in search of hubby.
I found him in the garage-(it's his favorite hiding place)!
I quickly sidled up to him, and purred sweetly..."Honey, I know we talked about painting the outside of the house next year-but how much would it cost to just paint the porch?"
I expected his answer we be somewhere in the ball park of $50-$100, but that's not exactly what he came back with.
"YOU ARE NOT-I REPEAT-NOT painting the front porch!"
"But it's awful," I
"Perfect," he yelled back. "Halloween is coming up in a month-and you won't have to do a thing to decorate for it!"
Not funny.
And I told him so-right after I asked him to put the screen door back up-because the photo's looked even more ridiculous-WITHOUT it!
As I stomped back to the porch-I found one of my ears of corn, laying in the garden. Thankfully, only a small portion on the bottom had been chewed away-so I was able to salvage the rest.
Later, after we'd both cooled down- hubby and I put the screen door back up...and I went back inside to finish editing my photo's.
This is our
But it's ours....and I'll just have to be satisfied with it for now.
As for those nasty little varmints who stole my goodies......well, I picked up some ears of corn at the farm on Sunday-and laid them out in the back yard. They were gone by Monday evening!
Your welcome squirrels! Now if only you could paint my house before Halloween!!!!
Blessings,
Christine
looks like FALL! very nice!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Patty! I SO appreciate your sweet comment!
DeleteI got a real kick out of your post. Back in 2010 we sold our old house that was out by a lake and ringed with a small forest behind the houses. We used to laugh ourselves sick watching the squirrels raid our neighbor's peach trees and roll the peaches slowly out to their cache in the forest. Our neighbor tried every year, but the squirrels always got the most of his peach trees.
